CALL FOR APPLICATIONS RICHARD TAMBULASI POSTGRADUATE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

The Department of Politics and Government and the Department of Management and Leadership Studies would like to announce the call for applications for the Richard Tambulasi Postgraduate Memorial Scholarship for the 2023/2024 academic year.

Background

Professor Richard Tambulasi was a member of the Department of Political and Administrative Studies and Principal of Chancellor College (then a constituent college of the University of Malawi) at the time of his passing on 7 February 2021. He joined the University of Malawi on 11 October 2002. He attained his PhD from the University of Manchester in 2011. He was promoted to the rank of full Professor on 29 April 2015. To honour Professor Richard Tambulasi, Department of Politics and Government and Department of Management and Leadership Studies resolved to introduce a scholarship in his name, Richard Tambulasi Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship will be offered in four Masters programs hosted by the associated departments namely; (1) Master of Public Administration and Management, (2) Master of Arts in Political Science, (3) Master of Arts in Development Studies, and (4) Master of Arts in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations.

Purpose and aims

1) To advance scholarly discussion in the teaching and research areas that were of interest to Professor Richard Tambulasi. The research interests of the late Professor Richard Tambulasi are as follows; (1) Public Policy, (2) Public Sector Reforms, (3) Decentralization, (4) Governance, and (5) Public Sector Human Resource Management.

2) To attract young talented individuals to the academy and mentor them in the core values of the academy.

Number of awards to be offered per year

A total of four awards shall be offered per year.

Duration of the award

The award will be for two years and will be renewable every year based on agreed milestones.

Monetary value and method of payment

a) Tuition fee waiver

b) Engagement as a demonstrator/tutor in the department

c) Research grant of MK 400 000.00 (Four Hundred Thousand Kwacha) as a contribution to research expenses in the second year.

Eligibility criteria

a) Must have a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 – credit/merit from an accredited university

b) Must have graduated within the past 3 years from the time of the application

c) Must be currently enrolled and registered in one of the four Masters programs hosted by the participating departments namely; (1) Master of Public Administration and Management, (2) Master of Arts in Political Science, (3) Master of Arts in Development Studies, and (4) Master of Arts in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations.
