FACULTY OF LAW AWARDS TOP PERFORMING STUDENTS

On 07 March 2018, the Faculty of Law held an inaugural Law awards ceremony, in recognition of the outstanding success of students in the faculty. The event took place at the Faculty of Law premises.

During the event, the faculty awarded 27 students with certificates of recognition. These included who were on Dean’s list, Heads list, most improved students, and those with outstanding skills in mooting, clinical and other practical skills.

According to the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Associate Professor Garton Kamchedzera, as a faculty they thought of recognizing students’ hard work and professionalism and encouraging them to do better and inspire others as well. He further said that by appreciating the students it will help them realize that they are building a strong foundation in their profession.

Eliya Zawanda, a 4th year student, who featured on the prestigious Dean’s list, was over the moon for his success. He attributed his success to hard work and dedication. “Every success story helps students become more self-confident. We are proud and also encouraged to achieve another successful result,” he said. Zawanda added that the award would motivate him to work even harder as he aims to reach greater heights in the profession. 

The Guest of Honour at the event, retired Chief Justice Anastasia Msosa applauded the Faculty of Law in taking such a giant step to recognize students’ hard work, which she said would go a long way in inspiring them for the future as their academic journey continues. She further congratulated and encouraged the awardees to aim high. “The awards should encourage us all to strive for greatness,” she said. “And to the rest of the students, these awards should serve as an encouragement to always aim high and achieve greater things.”

She also congratulated the faculty for performing well during the Nelson Mandela World Human Rights moot court competition in Geneva, Switzerland by scooping position 8 out of 39 Universities, finishing ahead of Yale University. She said that by achieving such a feat it showed that the faculty and the college at large is a force to reckon with in Africa and beyond.
