Laughing all the way to the bank: Chanco students receive NBM Merit awards

Five students at Chancellor College proved that good grades literally pay off when they became recipients of the National Bank Merit Awards on November 9, 2018.

The five students; Mercy Simbeye, Ulemu Kanyongolo, Etnas Daka, Comfort Chauluka and Bertha Ngulube   represented Chancellor College’s Faculties of Education, Law, Humanities, Science and Social Sciences respectively. The students were part of a larger grouping which was representative of Unima’s constituent colleges. In total, thirteen students from the University of Malawi received the awards at the function.

The award-giving ceremony took place at the Polytechnic in Blantyre. The students were accompanied by Deans of Faculty, each of whom presented glowing narratives of their particular student, highlighting achievements, personality and aspirations.

Speaking at the function, Unima’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Kalenga Saka, thanked National Bank CEO McFussy Kawawa and his team for rewarding excellence, and hailed the good working relationship between  Unima and the National Bank.

 The students each received a Visa Debit Card loaded with the equivalent of one year’s tuition fees.

Speaking on behalf of her fellow awardees, Ulemu Kanyongolo thanked National Bank for encouraging students to work hard, and reminded her fellow students that this was an incentive to work even harder.

“The  prestigious National Bank awards are something that we have been striving for. It is an honour to receive these awards, but it also reminds us as students  to always aim high,”  Kanyongolo said. 

The National Bank awards students who have distinguished themselves by getting high grades in their respective Faculties.
