UNIMA Hosts Parliamentary Cluster on Education, Science and Technology

The Parliamentary Cluster on Education, Science and Technology on Monday, 15th December 2025, held a meeting with University of Malawi management at the University Office in Zomba. The cluster met with the university leadership to familiarise itself with UNIMA’s current status, particularly in the areas of research, infrastructure development, as well as the challenges facing the institution.

Leading the UNIMA team was the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Samson Sajidu. He was accompanied by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sunduzwayo Madise; the University Registrar, Mr. Martin Matululu; the Director of Finance, Mr. Enock Njirwa; and all Executive Deans, among other senior officials.

During the engagement, Prof. Sajidu thanked the Honourable Members for the visit and expressed hope for a strong and collaborative relationship between the University and Parliament.

“We are very pleased with your visit. We believe this tour has been an eye-opener. You have seen and heard first-hand the challenges facing the University, and we hope that when you return to Parliament, you will help us lobby for increased support to enable us to run the University effectively,” he said.

The Chairperson of the cluster, Honourable Mutani Ellium Tambala, MP, said the engagement was timely, noting that the cluster is new, following the September elections.

The visit also provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on strategies to address the university’s challenges and explore avenues for sustainable growth and development.

As part of the visit, the cluster toured the university campus, where members appreciated both ongoing and completed infrastructure projects. The delegation expressed particular admiration for the construction of the new administration building, describing it as a significant development for the institution.
