Profile

Dr. Ahmmardouh Mjaya is a lecturer in language and linguistics in the Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Classical Studies. Before becoming a lecturer, he worked at the Centre for Language Studies as a Ciyawo Language Specialist. He is a Co-Chair of the UNESCO Chair, UEA. He is a member of the National Adult Literacy and Education Thematic Group. He is a Principal Investigator of the Multilingual Markets Project being undertaken in collaboration with the University of Stirling and Glasgow University. He led the Family Literacy Project under the UNESCO Chair partnership with the University of East Anglia. At the Centre for Language Studies, he was the principal contributor to the publication of Ciyawo monolingual Dictionary under the Malawi Lexicon Project (MaLex). He has made presentations at events and conferences organised by the British Association of Literacy and Development (BALID, UK), the United Kingdom Forum for International Education and Training (UKFIET), Bahir Dar University (Ethiopia), and Santo Tomas University (the Philippines).

The project will run from 30 April 2024 to 29 March 2026. The total project funding is £168,215,Family literacy project. This was a multinational project conducted by the University of Malawi (Malawi), Bahir Dar University (Ethiopia), Tribhuvan University (Nepal) and Santo Tomas University (The Philippines), coordinated by the University of East Anglia, funded by Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF) through UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). Project period: 01-10-2019 - 31-03-2022. Total funding: £45,392.34.,
