Profile

Ramsey Njema serves as a staff associate at the University of Malawi, where he teaches courses in cryptography, network programming, and machine learning. With a background in Network Engineering, Ramsey’s research interests lie at an intersection of artificial intelligence, privacy, and edge computing. Through his association with HISP-UNIMA, he has actively participated in digital transformation initiatives in health and agriculture, taking on roles as a software developer and implementer for notable projects such as iCHIS, a government-led nationwide community health digitalization initiative. Alongside his academic pursuits, Ramsey is an emerging machine learning engineer with expertise in computer vision and natural language processing, particularly focusing on low-resourced indigenous languages. He is a firm advocate for community-led initiatives, as demonstrated by his involvement with Zindi Africa, a pan-African data science platform committed to democratizing AI across the continent, where he holds the position of country ambassador for Malawi; additionally, Ramsey is an active and bonafide member of notable AI communities, including Data Science Africa, Deep Learning Indaba, Cohere Labs Open Science Community, Black in AI, IndabaX Malawi, and Masakhane, among others.
