Cartographer (UM 10) (1 position)
Qualifications & Attributes
Applicants should possess the following qualifications and attributes:

Diploma in Cartography, Surveying or Geo-informatics; or Diploma in geography with specialised training in the related field of cartography, map analysis and surveying techniques;

3 years’ experience in cartographic environment involving preparation of maps and surveying work.

Registered members of a relevant professional body e.g. surveyors’ institute of Malawi or Malawi Institute of Physical Planning.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
-
Participating in the preparation or review of work plans, policies, work manuals, laboratory report books, procedures and related documentation;

Ordering of cartographic materials, equipment and other requisites for the department;
-
Offering technical advice as may be required by academic staff for their research and teaching work;
-
Demonstrating techniques and procedures to students during cartographic laboratory sessions;
-
Preparing cartographic laboratories in digital mapping;
-
Ensuring maintenance of all infrastructure, equipment and instruments in the department and coordinating field courses in the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences;

Participating in the preparation of the Departmental budget;
-
Maintaining an updated inventory of all laboratory equipment and requisites, records on stock and other reports on laboratory operations;
-
Ensuring adherence to safety standards and providing First Aid to accident victims;

Participating in the preparation of quarterly and annual operational performance.
