Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals to fill the post of Music Technician/Studio Technician/Music Technologist tenable in the Department of Music and Dance, of the School of Arts, Communication and Design, at the University of Malawi.
Qualifications & Attributes
For the post of Music Technician/Studio Technician applicants must be holders of a minimum of Diploma in Music, Music Technology, Music Production, Studio Studies, Music Business, Music Performance, Orchestra Studies, Creative Digital Media, or any other related fields. In addition, applicants must have at least three years’ experience in music production, music technology, music entrepreneurship, music performance, sound engineering, or arts managements. Applicants with professional and advanced qualifications from such examining bodies as ABRSM and UNISA with the requisite experience will have an added advantage. Knowledge of modern music software and associated technologies is desirable for this post.
Applicants for the position of Music Technologist should possess a minimum of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Music in Music Technology, Music Software, Music Production, Music Business, Sound Engineering, Music Management, Digital Media, Electronic Music, and any other related field, plus three years’ work experience in their area of expertise.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties of the ideal candidate shall include:

Production of music using modern technologies

Enthusiasm for electronic sounds and expertise in using music software and equipment

Providing technical support to staff and students on software and technological needs

Availability to tutor, train and orient staff and students on modern technological practice

Budgeting and procurement for technological studio, teaching and learning resources
-
Provision of technical services for meetings, seminars and workshops
-
Assemble, operate and maintain the technical equipment used to record, amplify, enhance, mix or reproduce sound

Undertaking maintenance and general repairs of all equipment and accessories
-
Participating in the Department’s income generating activities, recording sessions and music concerts through provision of technical support

Sound engineering, studio set up, and audiovisual and multimedia production

Any other duties assigned by the Head of Department from time to time
