LEGAL CLINIC COORDINATOR

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the academic post of Coordinator for Legal Clinic tenable at the Faculty of Law, Chancellor College, University of Malawi.

The applicant must:

  • Hold a minimum of LLB (Honours), Second Upper Class (2:1).
  • Demonstrate experience in drafting and implementing project proposals.
  • Hold a valid Licence to practice law in the Courts of Malawi with at least 2 years’ experience.
  • Be self-starter and innovative.
  • Those with a Master’s or PhD degrees in law will have an added advantage.

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following duties:

  • Prepare the overall annual work plan of the Legal Clinic and the thematic Clinics.
  • Coordinate implementation of the activities of the UNIMA Legal Clinic and all thematic Clinics.
  • Provide teaching support in Clinical Legal Education and all practicals
  • Conduct research in Clinic Legal Education
  • Assist Supervisors of thematic Clinics in training of students, planning and carrying out outreach activities and conducting meetings with Clients.
  • Assess students on clinical practical learning activities.
  • Oversee the work of any thematic Clinic in the absence of the Supervisor
  • Conduct litigation on behalf of the Clinic where necessary.
  • Mobilise resources for the Clinic
  • Innovate ways of improving the Clinic and its activities.
  • Prepare and submit periodic reports to the Head of Department.
  • Carry out any other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.
