OPEN AND DISTANCE LEARNING (ODL) SATELLITE CENTRE COORDINATOR

(1 Post) – 2 Years Contract

The University of Malawi (Chancellor College) in partnership with the Arizona State University (ASU), is implementing a USAID-funded project called Strengthening Higher Education Access in Malawi Activity (SHEAMA). Among other things, SHEAMA seeks to increase access to higher education for rural adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and vulnerable young men through the provision quality Open and Distance Learning. Under this initiative, the University of Malawi (Chancellor College) would like to recruit a suitably qualified individual to work as a Coordinator for its Distance Learning Satellite Centre in Mzuzu.

  1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB

This job exists to assist in the effective and efficient management of a Distance Learning Satellite Centre of the University of Malawi (Chancellor College)

  1. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Among others, the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Satellite Centre Coordinator shall be expected to perform the following duties:

  • Managing program calendars and operations of the Satellite Center in liaison with the University’s E-Learning Director and the SHEAMA ODL Director;

  • Tracking students in Strengthening Higher Education Access in Malawi Activity (SHEAMA) supported programs;

  • Ensuring security, safety and good order of the Satellite Center facilities

  • Compiling and submitting reports on all Satellite Center related activities

  • Provide counselling, success coaching and mentorship to ODL students

  • Providing ICT support to students at the Satellite Center

  • Linking with industry partners through Regional Education and Employment Advisory Boards (REEABS) and District Education and Employment Advisory Boards (DEEABS).

  • Collecting student enrolment data;

  • Collecting scholarship related data; and

  • Participating in other SHEAMA-related and complementary university related activities

 

  1. QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or any related field from NCHE accredited higher education institution.

  • At least 3 years of work experience in a similar position or in Open and Distance Learning is an added advantage.

  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills (English)

  • Problem-solving attitude

  • Team player and self-starter

The successful candidate shall be placed at the College’s Satellite Centre in Mzuzu
