Staff Associate/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Music (2 Positions)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the positions of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Music.

  1. Demonstrator/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Voice, Choirology and Malawian Music

Applicants must possess a minimum of Bachelor of Arts majoring in Music or Bachelor of Education majoring in Music or Bachelor of Music with a minimum of Credit (for Staff Associate) or a minimum of Master’s Degree or PhD in Music (for Lecturer and Senior Lecturer positions) obtained from a recognised institution.

In addition, applicants must have the ability to teach Voice, Choirology and Malawian Musics. Candidates for Lecturer and Senior Lecturer positions must have a track record of research, publications and performance in the relevant fields. Ability and experience in teaching Music Education will be an added advantage.

  1. Demonstrator/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Instrument and Music Performance

Applicants must possess a minimum of Bachelor of Arts majoring in Music or Bachelor of Music with a minimum of Credit (for Staff Associate) or a minimum of Master’s Degree or PhD in Music (for Lecturer and Senior Lecturer positions) obtained from a recognised institution.

In addition, applicants must have the ability to teach at least two instruments, organise music concerts, competently play two instruments, and compose music. The applicants must also demonstrate the ability to create music ensembles for band or orchestra performance as academic as well as commercial entities. Knowledge about modern music technologies is desirable for this position. Interviews for this position will involve oral and practical performances.

Duties

Successful candidates shall be expected to perform the following duties:

  1. Teaching, setting and timely marking examinations for undergraduate courses

  2. Engaging in the development of curricular for undergraduate studies currently, and postgraduate studies in the short term for Senior Lecturer successful candidates

  3. Conducting research, consultancies and publishing in the areas of specialisation

  4. Supervising student projects

  5. Participating and presenting in academic seminars, concerts and outreach programmes

  6. Preparing students for academic assessment concerts at least twice every semester

  7. Creating vocal/dance/band ensembles

  8. Performing any other academic and official duties as may be assigned from time to time
