The University of Malawi Staff Sports Association (UMSSA) on 19th September, 2025, officially presented to the Vice-Chancellor the trophies won during the recently played Public University Staff Sports Association of Malawi (PUSSAM) Intervarsity Games, where they emerged as the overall winners.
The games, hosted by the University in July, saw UMSSA triumph in netball, volleyball, tag of war, and draughts. In addition to the trophies, several athletes also received gold medals.
The presentation ceremony took place in the University Boardroom, with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samson Sajidu, joined by University Registrar Mr. Martin Matululu and the Assistant Registrar for Student Welfare and Sports Director, Mr. Kumvenji Lamba.
Professor Sajidu congratulated the association for its outstanding performance and discipline throughout the games. He praised the team for not only competing with passion but also for elevating the University’s name to greater heights.
“I am equally delighted that we successfully hosted teams from other universities with great hospitality. This is a true reflection of the spirit of unity and excellence that defines the University,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the association’s visit to Zomba Maximum Prison where they donated assorted items as part of their corporate social responsibility.
He commended the initiative and encouraged them to continue engaging in such activities, including efforts to maintain a clean city.
Speaking at the event, UMSSA President Dr. Dyson Moses, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and University management for their continued support of the association.
UMSSA, together with all staff sports associations from all Malawian public universities, will be participating in the upcoming SAUSSA Games, scheduled for December in South Africa.
