Vice President Praises UNIMA Construction Projects

The infrastructural developments at the University of Malawi (UNIMA) continue to attract glowing praise from various sectors of the society. The latest to add his praise to the developments is the Vice President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima. The Vice President, who came for an inspection tour of Zomba City projects on 4th May, 2021, said he was impressed with quality of work on UNIMA campus when he inspected the construction works at the School of Economics which is funded by the African Development Bank (ADB).

Just like the Domasi Community Hospital, we haven’t had issues of poor quality with the K3.5 billion School of Economics project. I am also impressed that we have been assured that by October, 2021 the project will have been completed,” Dr Chilima said.

Dr. Chilima advised management to approve projects that would facelift the University of Malawi, pointing out that box-like architectural designs were a thing of the past at the college that “God loved the most”. During his visit, the Vice President was also able to appreciate the artistic visual impression of the new administration block whose construction recently commenced. He expressed optimism that the final product would enhance the presence of the University of Malawi in Zomba as a university city. At the end of the tour, the Vice President, who is also the Minister of Economic Planning & Development and Public Sector Reforms, observed that such construction projects are a good example of how taxpayer’s money should be used. In addition to inspecting projects at UNIMA, the Vice President also inspected construction projects at the Cobbe Barracks.
